Banter Amber Aged Rum
Banter Amber is the aged sibling to American Cane's White rum, still blended and bottled by rum industry veteran Maggie Campbell (previously of Privateer Rum and Mount Gay) alongside co-founders Darin and Chaz Vest — the team's first releases under their new company, while they build an actual distillery in Lafayette, Louisiana. This one draws from a wider net of sources than the White: pot-and-column still rums from Jamaica, Trinidad, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic, made from both molasses and cane juice, aged up to four years. Like the White, there's nothing added — no sweeteners, no flavorings, no chill filtration. The nose brings pecan, baking spice, and singed grapefruit, while the palate turns rich with macadamia, citrus, honey, and pineapple marmalade, lifted by tangy orange zest, finishing long with mango, toasted cinnamon, and warm depth. One independent taster picked up light caramel alongside a vibrant, almost agricole-like herbal streak — a nice sign of real complexity for a rum at this price point.
