Banter is the debut release from American Cane, a new company launched in December 2025 by rum industry veteran Maggie Campbell — previously behind Privateer Rum and Mount Gay — alongside co-founder Darin Vest. Their pitch is simple: rum was America's most important spirit for over 200 years, yet the country now produces less than 1% of the world's rum despite drinking more than a quarter of it, and Banter is built to help change that. The White expression is an unaged, additive-free blend of pot and column still rum, distilled from both molasses and cane juice sourced from Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. The nose brings lime zest, vanilla bean, and soursop, rounded out by a touch of macadamia creaminess, while the palate stays lively with tropical fruit, fresh-cut grass, toasted vanilla, and a sharp snap of lime curd and minerality.
