Description: At the end of the 18th century, Don Juancho Nieto Meléndez, a passionate explorer of traditional beverage flavors, was drawn to the Hacienda Botucal. He was fascinated by the artisanal production methods that could yield a wide variety of outcomes, and the subtle complexities of environmental factors that affect the rum-making process, such as tropical weather and humidity. Don Juancho was a craftsman at heart and dedicated himself to refining his product by sampling exotic liquors and rums. His impressive collection of beverages, known as The Ambassador's Reserves, became famous among his friends for its class and good nature. He studied the production methods used in Jamaica, which was the world standard for rum, and also drew inspiration from the islands of the Antilles, discovering and improving upon their distillation and aging secrets. Don Juancho's astute combination of ingredients, wood barrels, and honeys eventually yielded a robust and complex rum with a unique character, body, and irresistible aromas. He named it Ron Diplomático, a rum that would go on to captivate the world. Though Don Juancho passed away in the last century, his legacy lives on through Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva, a treasured rum export from Venezuela produced in his honor.
